On the road from Colorado Springs to Aspen

Taken on Friday, 13 August 2010.

At airport hotel near DIA

So far, everything has been smooth and safe.

The drive back from Aspen yesterday was even more insane than the drive to Aspen. From Leadville to Denver (triangle route) it's mostly a downhill plunge that seems to go on forever.

Not everyone gets to Limon.

I wanted to buy a limon, but not one was available. Not one.

The flat lands east of Denver were something new to my eyes. Driving up onto a slight rise and being able to see 'forever' is new for me.

Another cell phone snapshot from yesterday. Part way up the mountain, heading towards Independence Pass.

Manitou Cliff Dwellings

(From a previous day's activities.)

Just outside the gate of this attraction, we saw the aftermath of a traffic accident. Some large rocks had fallen from a cliff onto the highway. A large and expensive pick-up truck was damaged, and the massive travel trailer it was towing was essentially destroyed. Reportedly nobody was hurt, but somebody's vacation is over.

Cell phone snapshot...

...Colorado style.
Revisited 'Garden of the Gods' this evening, just before sunset.
